Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are a big deal in almost every country. Around 90% of businesses worldwide are SMEs and they provide more than half of all jobs, according to the World Bank. SMEs also make an outsized contribution to national income, ranging from up to 40% in emerging economies1 to around 55% in Europe.2
